WHAT CAMEROONIANS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE WHITE HOUSE SURVEYING THE INTERNET

Ever since it was revealed by a twenty nine year old ex CIA agent, Mr. Snowden that the American government is spying on the internet, several debates have been raised world wide. The white house recently declared that no such thing was being done to American citizens. The target, according to them, was foreigners; with special emphasis probably laid on the Middle east. With the internet’s over 2 billion visitors world wide, it is difficult to know exactly who is being spied on. Facebook, skype, yahoo and google amongst others have denied knowing anything about the existence of such a phenomenon. Experts round the world however have it that these social networking sites can definitely not say that they were aware of such, for fear of losing their clientele.

In Cameroon, facebook alone has over three million subscribers who make use of this medium mainly to send messages to their loved ones and social networking groups. One should however not forget that Cameroon is one of the world’s centers for scamming: with Buea and Bamenda being the chief centers within the country. These scammers are known for using gmail and yahoo to achieve their dubious aims and that is probably the reason why a good number of persons believe that they will be caught and brought to justice.

This is however not the only motion for which Cameroonians are vying for. Another group of persons have quite a different way of viewing the issue. Just like a good number of persons worldwide, they believe that “prism” is a violation of privacy and should therefore be stopped. Rhey also believe that the next thing that the USA gevrnment will spy on is mobile phones.

True, a huge information has been dropped on the world: the American government is definitely spying on people’s conversations. Cameroon has had its say, have yours.
